Laurel Rivera, LMT was born and raised in Colorado. After living many other places, she realized that there is no better place to call home than the mountains of Colorado. This place has all of the things that she loves: hiking, backpacking, skiing, yoga, amazing natural health practitioners, art, beautiful views, great live music and so much to do.
She has always been interested in the body and even more so in its complexities and amazing ability to heal itself. Her journey began while working on a small organic farm in Montana. There she sparked her interest in food as medicine, along with educating herself about the healing properties of herbs. When Laurel came back to Colorado she studied Integrative Therapies at Metro State University of Denver. There it became very clear to her that she wanted to work in a career that impacted people in a healing manner. She found Denver Integrative Massage School and started studying right away. Massage has allowed Laurel to help people feel better. Whether clients come looking to relieve sore or tight muscles, stress or fatigue, or just want to relax and rejuvenate, it is rewarding for her to see her clients leave looking and feeling better than when they came in.
Laurel has an integrated approach to massage. This means that she uses many tools and modalities to get the desired results. Some of the modalities that she uses are Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Myofacial Massage, Thai Massage- using alternating pressure and stretching, and Acupressure. She also often uses aromatherapy and hot compresses in her treatments. Her approach is very therapeutic and she enjoys figuring out the puzzle pieces to relieve pain and tension in the body. She also believes that it is just as important to get into that "melting" relaxation point during a massage. Therefore she focuses both towards a change in the tension of the muscles and also in the relaxation of the body.
Although not exclusively, Laurel especially likes working with women, mothers and mamas to be. She is fascinated by birth and the whole process of growing a new life. She is looking forward to learning how to be an amazing doula and cannot wait to be able to support parents during labor and birth. She is happy to make house calls for massage during pre-labor, labor and postpartum.
